Angraecum sedifolium Schltr., Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. Beih. 33: 316 (1925).
Homotypic Synonyms:
Angraecoides sedifolia (Schltr.) Szlach., Mytnik & Grochocka, Biodivers. Res. Conservation 29: 10 (2013).
Description:
Upright or pendent plant about 15 cm tall; stems simple, densely leafed, about 2 mm in diameter; leaves narrowly linear, 20-25 x 1.5-2.5 mm, keeled dorsal; inflorescences one-flowered, shorter than the leaves; peduncle slender, 17-23 mm long; flower small, yellowish (perianth 8 mm); sepals 8 mm long, three-veined; petals lanceolate-acuminate, one veined; lip 7.5 x 5 mm below the middle, rounded at the base, slightly concave; spur 13 mm long, with slightly obtuse tip; column 1.5 mm long; pedicellate ovary about 10 mm long.
Habitat:
This species is endemic in central Madagascar, in moss forest, at altitudes of around 2,000 meters (6,560 feet). Mt. Tsiafajavona is mentioned as a specific locality.
Cultivation:
Grown on slabs cool growing epiphyte, low light (500 to 1,500 fc.). They shall misted almost daily.
Notes:
This is another semi-mini species that would be of interest to "mini" growers. The plant tends to form a rooty mass with numerous leads or branches, but the entire mass is easily accommodated on a 3 x 6-inch slab, and it is easy to divide. When in flower (usually in summer), such a plant will throw out 30—50 inflorescences and many flowers. Although certainly not spectacular, it is showy because of its numerous flowers.
Distribution:
Central Madagascar
