Angraecum sesquipedale var. angustifolium Bosser & Morat, Adansonia, n.s., 12: 77 (1972).
Homotypic Synonyms:
Angraecum bosseri Senghas, Orchidee (Hamburg) 24: 193 (1973).
Macroplectrum bosseri (Senghas) Szlach., Mytnik & Grochocka, Biodivers. Res. Conservation 29: 18 (2013).
Description:
It is distinguished from Angraecum sesquipedale by its upright habit, smaller and much narrower leaves (22 cm long and no more than 1.5 cm wide), and lighter green color. The inflorescence is less well developed, and is most often 1- or 2-flowered. The flower size is also slightly smaller, and the plant flowers 4—6 weeks prior to the bloom time for Angraecum sesquipedale. It is more compact and the leaves are darker. The flowering season, March through May, is different.
Habitat:
This variety grows in the transitional zone in which a subspecies of another, little known angraecum, Angraecum eburneum Bory subsp. xerophilum H. Perr., also grows.
Cultivation:
As given for the genus, hot growing.
Notes:
Although this plant has more recently been described as a separate species (Angraecum bosseri Senghas), I shall refer to it here as a variety of Angraecum sesquipedale, as which it was described by the French botanists J. Bosser and P. Morat when they were associated with the Tsimbazaza Botanical Garden in Antananarivo.
Distribution:
SE. Madagascar
