Habitat:
This rare orchid is found at 3300-4900 ft. (1000-1500 m) where it grows in deep shade in evergreen forest, usually near a river. Plants usually are found growing as epiphytes at a fairly low level on tree trunks and larger branches. I. & E. La Croix (1997) report: "This species is under real threat, as it is known from only three sites in southern Malawi, and is common in only one of these. I do not know its status in Zambia, but suspect that it is rare there, as it has seldom been collected."
