Habenaria anguiceps Bolus, J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 25: 164 (1889).
Description:
A glabrous erect herb, 12-40 cm. high; stem straight leafy; leaves lanceolate acuminate 1-nerved imbricate, 2-6 cm. long, passing into bracts; spike cylindrical usually densely many-fl., 2-2,5 cm. in diameter, flowers somewhat squarrose, bracts lanceolate the lower exceeding, the upper slightly shorter than the flowers ; side sepals lanceolate acute reflexed, 6 mm, long odd sepal ovate somewhat hooded, of the same length; petals undivided obliquely lanceolate acute, adhering to the odd sepal lip undivided linear obtuse rather fleshy, widened at the base, margins revoliite, 6 mm, long, spur obtuse inflated about as long as the limb; clinandrium erect very obtuse, caudicle- bearing arms of the rostellum short incurved, longer than the subulate stigmatiferous processes. Colour of the flowers green. The leaves are occasionally somewhat glaucous.
Habitat:
In sour rocky grasslands at elevations of 1000 to 1900 meters.
Cultivation:
As given for the genus, cold growing terrestrial.
