Description:
Large plants; rhizome 1.3-6 cm in diameter; pseudobulbs ovoid-fusiform (8-28 x 2.5-4 cm), 4-8 leaved. Leaves lanceolate, very barge (0.90-1.20 m. x 8-10 cm), attenuate toward both ends, petiolate basally and acute apically. Inflorescence 1.20 m tall and more; raceme generally 40 cm. tall and 15-25 flowered; flowers 8-9 cm in diameter, red with the labellum lilac, bordered with red. Sepals widely obovate oblong (35-45 x 25-30 mm), rounded apically, finely many veined (20-22 veined), the laterals slightly shorter and wider than the median. Petals widely obovate (43 x 30 mm), rounded apically, with 16 fine veins. Labellum suborbicular (45 x 40 mm) divided apically into 4 widely rounded lobes, nearly twice as wide an long, the laterals marginal and vertical, the center 2 shorter and flat; provided 15 mm above the bane of the labellum with a wide median trench with its margins projecting, tipped with a thick, rounded lamella in front, between 2 other lamellas, each with a thick, vertical keel, the median ked of the 2 lamellas reaching nearly to the base of the median apical lobes and being tipped with 3 vertical lamellas, thick, obtuse and 5 mm tell, generally accompanied by a connical-obtuse tooth on each side of these lamellas and shorter; veins flabelliform and projecting basally. Column 2.2.5 cm tall, thick, deeply trenched, with the margins thick and projecting in the bower half, with a wide rounded foot basally. Anther with a narrow, obtuse appendage. Pedicel 4-5 cm long.
Habitat:
Epiphyte of the pandanus trees. From forests on the eastern coast.

November-January.
Cultivation:
This it is a species best suited to a basket or large sock like container, in a mixture of shredded spaghnam moss and isolite or similar well drained media that keeps the root system damp but not wet. Maximum air circulation and a bright sunny spot is important.
