Vanilla nigerica Rendle, Cat. Pl. Oban: 108 (1913).
Description:
A species of the Vanilla chalotii group. It is similar to Vanilla seretii, both being characterized by their narrowly oblong leaves, verrucose stems and pretty, large, white and pink flowers with the hollow saccate lip typical of the Vanilla chalotti group. Vanilla nigerica is different from Vanilla seretii in its lip being provided with 2 gibbae at base, the coarsely hairy lip throat, and the recurved, not rolled midlobe of the lip. It is probably a rare plant.
