Description:
Plant 1 1/4 ft. high, all but the individual flowers turning black in drying; stems stout, straight, leafy; leaves cauline, somewhat spreading, lanceolate, acuminate, 2–3 1/2 lin. long; scapes 1 1/4 ft. high; spikes 4–6 in. long, dense, many-flowered; bracts long-acuminate from a broad sheathing base, 7–10 lin. long; pedicels about 4 lin. long; flowers rather small; dorsal sepal broadly ovate, obtuse, concave, 2 1/2 lin. long; lateral sepals spreading, broadly elliptic-oblong, obtuse, concave, 2 1/2 lin. long; petals obliquely ovate or suborbicular, subobtuse, very concave, 2 1/2 lin. long, forming with the dorsal sepal a globose galea; lip broadly unguiculate; limb reflexed, cuneately trilobed, 2 1/2 lin. long; side lobes diverging, oblong-lanceolate, acute; front lobe narrowly subulate, about a third as large as the side lobes; appendage very small and fleshy, transversely oblong and somewhat bilobed, with crisped-undulate margin, about a sixth as long as the limb and broader than long; column short; arms of the rostellum strongly incurved, very concave, broadly oblong, subobtuse, 1 1/2 lin. long.
