Description:
Plants upright, stems few to 30 cm long, closely covered with leaf bases and bearing thick grayish roots near the base, 5-7 mm in diameter. Leaves in 2 rows closely overlapping on the stem, dark green with very distinct venation, stiff, ligulate, slightly unequally bilobed at the apex, 10-25 cm long, 4-5 cm wide. Inflorescence in one-sided racemes, axillary or arising between the leaf bases, upright, slightly shorter than or as long as the leaves, bearing several widely spaced flowers; bracts conspicuous, shorter than the ovary. Flowers 5-7, white, fleshy, 1-1.5 cm in diameter; sepals lanceolate, acute, slightly wider at the base than the petals; lip fleshy, concave, with a conspicuous conical spur to 1 cm long; column green.
Habitat:
Epiphyte in forests, still relatively common in certain areas; 1000-1500 m; flowering in February and sometimes at other times of the year.
Cultivation:
As given for the genus, cool growing epiphyte.
